THE PROBLEM
The Price of Being Wrong was a personal project present Fernando Bermudez talk about the criminal justice system and the price of having a wrongful conviction. After spending 18 years in prison his sentence was reversed while being awarded 4.75 million dollars for his time spent. This is a common theme among minorities being wrongfully convicted minus the 4.75 million settlement. Many never see freedom after these wrongful convictions. Expressing this position was the problem I faced while creating this poster.
THE SOLUTION
Originally I created a dollar sign using prison bars. However under original concept I used colors that were too bright and didn't encapsulate the seriousness of the topic. Changing course on color scheme I used the dark background to give the main attention to the center of the design, the dollar sign. The eyes represent Fernando and the many other wrongfully convicted inmates at their most vulnerable. The eyes are hidden behind a shadow in such a dark place to show the despair that they must feel everyday knowing the truth, wanting back their freedom.
My Process
concepts and Color Palette
I expanded upon my original concept using the bars and dollar sign. Using the yellow to represent the dollar sign was not appropriate. Did not represent the struggle Fernando and many other inmates had to endure being wrongfully convicted. The black eyes and white background did not display the proper emotions when dealing with such a topic.
Choosing dark and light greens to compliment each other while using a saturated red to pop. The gold dollar sign would have been good to use in relation to the government paying out large sums of money but that was not the message I wanted to portray.
